"Murder on the Orient Express" by Agatha Christie is a just-plain-good mystery with a totally 'out there' and outrageous plot. It really shouldn't work...more surreal than real...but it does. Poirot uses his little grey cells to great effect to solve a puzzle where a nefarious victim is murdered in his bed while the train he is on is stranded by snow and the dozen or so suspects aren't who they seem to be.
