Add a CommentI'm so happy to see comments bc I love John Updike so much. I'm surprised at the dates bc I just recommended APL to buy this a few months ago. Maybe they had it and lost it.
I'm noticing in this brilliant book the vernacular of the dad is kind of like a Saul Bellow character. Can't describe it exactly but it's very breezy and folksy and male--bravado.
"No, I'm sorry, we don't hire dirty centaurs." This was the inspiration for the classic SNL sketch!
