The sixth Grant County novel, from the No. 1 Bestseller.

Lena Adams has spent her life struggling to forget her childhood in Reece, the small town which nearly destroyed her. She's made a new life for herself as a police detective in Heartsdale, a hundred miles away - but nothing could prepare her for the violence which explodes when she is forced to return. A vicious murder leaves a young woman incinerated beyond recognition. And Lena is the only suspect.

When Heartsdale police chief Jeffrey Tolliver, Lena's boss, receives word that his detective has been arrested, he has no choice but to go to Lena's aid - taking with him his wife, medical examiner Sara Linton. But soon after their arrival, a second victim is found. The town closes ranks. And both Jeffrey and Sara find themselves entangled in a horrifying underground world of bigotry and rage - a violent world which shocks even them. But can they discover the truth before the killer strikes again?

I have recently started reading her books and I have to say I'm really enjoying them! Great read!

I had to keep checking to make sure I had the right author~ this book is not as good as her usual stuff. (Maybe because it was written earlier in her writing career?)
I normally get tired of books written from Sarah's point of view because she's so sheltered, whiny & small-hearted. Ugh! But this was more annoying than normal. It was so full of cliched thinking, and really heavy with the long-winded ponderings. Also, towards the end I felt really irritated. Slaughter builds the suspense with totally pointless stuff, and takes the red herrings ridiculously far.
All in all, I enjoy Karin Slaughter, but should've skipped this one.

Good book. Lots of twisted and turns. Maybe I've been reading too many of her books lately because I didn't find this one as good as the other ones. I got real tired of hearing Dr. Sarah complaining and worrying all the time. But I guess she's got good reasons.

I haven't read this book yet but I was very disappointed to see that one of the comments
gave away the ending.
