Walter Channing writes to Maria Weston Chapman in regards to thanking her for her notice of his remarks at the convention. He explains that these were the direct products of the occasion. He writes, "I felt born to a new ideal, a new life." He thinks that "in justice to the occasion, the audience, or the "speaker" these remarks should not be printed. He is grateful for that communion with great and gracious thoughts and holy purposes. He requests that he may keep the manuscript of her report on his remarks as a "perpetual remembrance" of the part he took in the proceedings on November 20, 1842.
