"Jennifer Chaise is proud of her life. Coming from nothing, she's used her beauty to her advantage and is swept up in a glamorous world of wealth and privilege as the mistress of a high-flying businessman. But when she walks in on a violent scene in their Las Vegas hotel room, Jennifer knows she can no longer ignore the truth about her boyfriend and she flees. Desperate to escape the men searching for her, she invents a whole new persona--with a new look and a new name--as she hides out in a small Nevada town. Working as a waitress in the local diner, she finds a mentor in Louise, a retired professor who takes her in. As Jennifer begins to embrace a new life, she realizes how much was missing from her old one: a sense of community and purpose...But it's not easy to simply disappear. Her neighbor Alex is a cop, and while he's friendly enough, he may also suspect that Jennifer is not what she seems."--

Jennifer had it all - she had a nice condo, jewelry, vacations, and side investments with the money she earned. When Nick, her current boyfriend, takes her to Vegas for a gambling trip, she is surprised when his wife shows up. Jennifer almost walked in on a blow up of major proportions but later, when she returns, she thinks she sees the wife dead. Jennifer runs and finds comfort and a job in Boulder City, Nevada. She befriends many and finds that she likes her new life and the new man. She is helping a teenager deal with a rough life and helping a friend house sitting.e When Nick shows up again, things go south. With the help of Alex (a cop and her current boyfriend), and his partner, they track Jennifer down and do what they need to bring her home. A great read that has some suspense and romance. Love Robyn Carr's writing - she never disappoints.

This was a new to me, did not read it before. So I really enjoyed it. There was the unknown
element to keep you guessing but I just enjoyed the story.
Believable? No! But that's why it's fiction.
If you like Robyn Carr and have not read all of her older books this is
worth your time.

Ditto to below comment! Thought perhaps she'd redid the book from middle on, so kept Reading? Rather irratated! To many Great Books to Waste time on Fluff! Yes, she has written a number of books I like, but not to read twice!

This is a reprint of author's 2005 book Runaway Mistress. Why isn't there anything to note this without getting the book?
