This film was adapted from John le Carre’s first novel, “ Call for the Dead.” It followed shortly after the success of “The Spy Who Came in from the Cold,” which was adapted from le Carre’s second novel. Censorship in Britain was obviously starting to loosen up, as James Mason’s wife was a clinically diagnosed nymphomaniac. Such topics were not previously permitted in films from the Great Britain or the USA. Brit actors James Mason and Harry Andrews were the two main stars in this film. This film is a must for all le Carre fans.
slow, lumbering, sound quality poor either blaring or whispering
