"Shadows of Liberty reveals the extraordinary truth behind the news media: censorship, cover-ups, and corporate control. Filmmaker Jean-Philippe Tremblay takes a journey through the darker corridors of the US media, where global conglomerates call the shots. For decades, their overwhelming influence has distorted news journalism and compromised its values.Tracing the story of media manipulation through the years, Shadows of Liberty poses a crucial question: why have we let a handful of powerful corporations write the news? We're left in no doubt--media reform is urgent and freedom of the press is fundamental."--Container.

As with so many other good documentaries this film succeeds admirably as an exposé but fails as a call to action. It leaves us with no plan or even an outline of approach to solve the very real problems it raises. Still, it is a must-see for anyone who cares about liberty, knowledge being the essential foundation for successful action.

This is a fantastic documentary - - with the exception of the inclusion of professional liar, Dan Rather. [Now, Rather may or may not have lied until the very end, it is conceivable Rather is just so stupid, just too stupid, to have ever deduced the easily researched fact that G.W. Bush NEVER qualified as an officer [he attended enlisted basic training at Lackland AFB just a little while ahead of myself] and he NEVER qualified as a pilot [contrary to pathetic Fake Newsies at Time, Newsweek, NYT and the Bezos Post, one must attend USAF flight school, one does NOT ojt to be a jet pilot, for crissakes!]. So the story wasn't that Bush was missing ANG meetings; it was that he was being illegally and fraudulently carried on their payroll as an officer and pilot! You'd want him to be AWOL, for crissakes!
But the others are fantastic! I am unsure that journalistic values have ever been compromised, since during my lifetime, I have never seen them at the network level or station level, only the infrequent individuals such as Gary Webb and Ms. Borjesson, and Robert Parry, Amber Lyon, et cetera!
Today, the networks are media outlets are owned by a few corporations, which in turn have the same four majority shareholders: Vanguard Group, BlackRock, State Street and Fidelity - - who in fact are the majority shareholders in the majority of major corporations in North America and Europe. [Around FDR's time, it was 17 -- today it is just 4]
[FYI: Regarding the assault on WikiLeaks' Julian Assange - - everyone on the Swedish side is financially connected with their media mogul family, the Bonnier family, which originally attempted to entice [contain] Assange to leak only through Bonnier-owned publications, which he refused! Almost immediately after extradition proceedings were illegaly initiated against Assange, the Swedish gov't received several highly lucrative American defense contracts - - while America sells the largest overall numbers of weapon systems, Sweden, per capita, is the greatest arms dealer in the world!]
