Beards, brothers, and bikers! Oh my!

Identical twins Beau and Duane Winston might share the same devastatingly handsome face, but where Beau is outgoing and sociable, Duane is broody and reserved. This is why Jessica James, recent college graduate and perpetual level-headed good girl, has been in naïve and unhealthy infatuation with Beau Winston for most of her life.

His friendly smiles make her tongue-tied and weak-kneed, and she's never been able to move beyond her childhood crush. Whereas Duane and Jessica have always been adversaries. She can't stand him, and she's pretty sure he can't stand the sight of her...

But after a case of mistaken identity, Jessica finds herself in a massive confusion kerfuffle. Jessica James has spent her whole life paralyzed by the fantasy of Beau and her assumptions of Duane's disdain; therefore she's unprepared for the reality that is Duane's insatiable interest, as well as his hot hands and hot mouth and hotter looks. Not helping Jessica's muddled mind and good girl sensibilities, Duane seems to have gotten himself in trouble with the local biker gang, the Iron Order.

Certainly, Beau's magic spell is broken. Yet when Jessica finds herself drawn to the man who was always her adversary, now more dangerous than ever, how much of her level-head heart is she willing to risk?

This is the first installment of my favorite romance series. It introduces the well read redneck Winston brothers and their world of snark and sweetness. Penny Reid is a master of creating chemistry and heart.

If I never hear the descriptor "good woman" used to describe a female character or someone talk about how a woman's touch is needed/a woman is needed to look after a man, I will be very happy. This was otherwise a cute story, but can we please, please, please stop it with the ridiculous gender roles in general, and especially when they are discordant with the other character traits. Who do they serve? That shit isn't romantic, it's regressive. Welcome to the 21st century, we're going forward, not back.

A few too many convoluted side plots for me, and to face not just a book, but a series with a character named Cletus... I just can't, even if all the Winston brothers seem like bad boys done right.

It was the cover that caught my eye and the characters that drew me in. Penny Reid has joined my must-read list for her humorous romances about the Winston family from Green Valley, TN.

A great spin-off from Reid's "Knitting in the City" series that has made me instantly fall in love with all of the Winston brothers (and sister). Fantastic characters, witty, sweet, interesting, and written in a way that gets you completely invested. Warning: you will be hooked and want to read all the other books in the series to find out what happens with these lovable characters.

(Read: 06/16) With Beauty and the Mustache being my favorite Penny Reid book thus far, it's no surprise that I would also love the Winston Bros. spin-off. Well, no surprise to me, anyway. This is another 5+ Star, keeper-shelf, and will re-read book. As has been the case for most of her books. Penny Reid is one of a small handful of authors that I will buy their books sight unseen. They are just THAT good and I am never disappointed.

I would be lying if I said the cover of this book didn't pique my interest before anything else. Cross-stitched bearded dude? Love it!

I really liked the set up of this romance: it's not a second chance type thing, yet the main characters still get to have an extensive background story. This is also my first romance with a motorcycle gang in it, so there's that. This was a really fun romance, with a fantastic hero, Duane. I've already put the next Winston Brothers book on my list.

I love a good romance and this one is great! I liked the characters. Jessica is a smart woman with a life plan and Duane is a good man with a bad guy feel. I can't wait to read the next one!

“'I hate you,' I whispered, feeling confused, defensive, and therefore spiteful. Duane’s fingers loosened just a smidge where he held me, and his thumb stroked the inside of my wrist. I shivered, and I hated myself for the involuntary response. He cocked an eyebrow and whispered gently, softly, 'I hate you too, Jess. I hate you so very, very much…'" - Jessica James

"I had an odd thought just then, that I should only ever whisper her name, and that she should always be close enough to hear it." - Duane Winston
