The middle of this book really drug on for me... Loved the ending though. This won't make my favorite reads list, but there are definitely a few messages that will stick with me from this one. The first part took me a bit to get into, but the dystopian aspects of this book are excellent. Reminiscent of Maze Runner in the sense that not all is what it seems. If you are into a dystopian that isn't too science fiction heavy, this would be a good read for you!The first part took me a bit to get into, but the dystopian aspects of this book are excellent. This book does a wonderful job of discussing the complexities of life. It definitely has a teen flair with characters that have very specific traits and interests, but overall think it is a book that could lead to great discussion or at least thought provoking inner monologue. This book does a wonderful job of discussing the complexities of life. A very sweet and heart-warming story of support and community growth. But, how could this school afford to give a $10,000 scholarship to prom king and queen... like I would have ran for prom queen if I got that kind of prize!!

Wow, I loved this one! This is a wonderful representation of the historical fiction genre. I feel like I learned so much about Spain's history in an attainable and engaging way. Definitely sparks my interest in reading more of Sepetys's work!

A sweet story centered on lion dancing and love! Finding it and feeling it for oneself. Lots of history and secrets to dive into with this story, but that is also what helps the reader connect to the characters.

Such an important and educational story! Loved follow the growth of these characters both as a family and individually. I hadn't ever heard the term "parachute kids" before, but I can't imagine this experience and so happy to see stories like this are being shared.Such an important and educational story! I love the style of a narrative memoir, but this one just didn't hit for me. I think the author provided a lot of insight around female friendships, but more of the book was focused on her personal difficulties rather than the topic at large. A nice and easy nonfiction palette cleanser if you need a break from your regular reads.I love the style of a narrative memoir, but this one just didn't hit for me.
